"I didn't think it could happen to me"

What are your chances of becoming disabled?

Higher than you probably think. You can ignore the problem, but it's hard to ignore the facts:

  • Just over 1 in 4 of today's 20 year-olds will become disabled before they retire.
  • Accidents are NOT usually the culprit. Back injuries, cancer, heart disease and other illnesses cause the majority of long-term absences.

Imagine: you're suddenly unable to work. Without an income, you quickly exhaust your savings, undermining your family's financial security. The money you've managed to put away for a vacation, the kids' education, and your own retirement now has to be spent on gas, groceries, and other necessities. The worry is suffocating. The stress and sleepless nights can seem unbearable.

Are you prepared if it happens to you? Probably not. If you're like most Americans, you don't have disability insurance or enough emergency savings to last 34.6 months. Yes, that’s the duration of the average long-term disability claim.

Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck. There's little or no money left for unexpected emergencies like an injury or illness - the primary causes of disability. If you become disabled, will you be ready? Or will you and your loved ones face serious financial hardship, possibly foreclosure and even bankruptcy? We can help you prepare for a disability the same way you plan for other emergencies. Have questions? Give us a call and let us help you.
